You will be greeted outside Zizzi by Fins & Forks' fishing guide & chef Michael King before we take a leisurely walk along the undercliff path to the rockpools. Here starting with nothing more than a hand net we will first aim to gather our bait from the tidal rock pools (tides dependant) before heading to Brighton Marina to fish comfortably and safely from the marina arm, here we will fish predominantly for Bass & (if in season) the mighty Sussex Squid, we may also be lucky enough to pick up a variety of other species such as Pollock, Mackerel & Cuttlefish. Once our session concludes and with our freshly caught lunch we will head over to the Fins & Forks kitchen for a hand’s on master class covering the preparation and skill needed to turn your catch into something ready to dazzle anyone lucky enough to get a dinner invite, Seasonal recipes include (but are not limited to) crispy skin EVERY time, Bass Tacos, and our “classified” Chilli Salt Squid. You will not get a fresher lunch!
Much like our other experiences, in the rare event we do not manage to catch our lunch don't worry! Our kitchen is always stocked with freshly landed Sussex species ensuring you get to enjoy the remainder of the day. Equally we often find it beneficial to cook using our procured fish, thus allowing clients to take their freshly prepared catch home (prepared, vacuum packaged and pan ready) to recreate the recipes and dishes from the comfort of their own kitchen, and also potentially allowing any one who could not join for the day the chance to sample some wonderful seafood skilfully caught and cooked by your own hand.
Please note - The rock pools can be incredibly slippery, quite a challenge, and not suitable for everyone. Should you not wish to gather bait we will happily get it on your behalf, Should you have children we highly recommend it, often it turns into their highlight from the day. Equally we can only access the rockpools for a short period over low tide so again if that is not possible, we will have everything ready to go as soon as you arrive and we can hopefully use the time gained to add an extra fish or 2 to the bag
You’ll be working up a sweat. Bring along a touch of enthusiasm and a little determination
