A fantastic and unique photography and nature based walking experience which takes you on a walk through one of the wildest parts of the Peak District National Park. Your guide will assist you to take great photographs and you will have plenty of time to photograph or just watch and observe the amazing mountain hares in their natural habitat. You will also have the opportunity to learn about the ecology and restoration of these amazing bog and moorland habitats. For those without their own camera this is still an amazing opportunity to experience these rare animals.
  • Photograph and observe rare mountain hares
  • Learn about this unique area’s nature and conservation with your guide
  • Private tour tailored specifically to you
  • 5 to 8 hour experience (depending on your timing preferences).

The highest points of the Peak District are the only places in England where you can still find Mountain Hares. During winter, when they change to their white winter coats, is the best time to view and photograph Mountain Hares in their natural habitat.
Most people will never see them when walking in the hills but I have a 100% record of seeing them on these trips. The day will be planned specifically for you and will provide plenty of time to photograph, or just to watch these amazing animals. It goes without saying that it's worth taking along a camera with a long lens or zoom and binoculars if you have them.
To get to the optimum locations involves a walk of around 3 miles in each direction, starting from the Snake Pass road, between Glossop and Sheffield. After a gradual climb of around 200m (600ft) we reach a flattening from where we leave the Pennine Way path. I will navigate you across the complex moorland terrain to some of the best locations to see and photograph Mountain Hares in their natural habitat. There will also be the chance of seeing short eared owls, golden plover, red grouse, kestrels and other wildlife on these trips as well as learning about the ecology and restoration of these amazing bog and moorland habitats.
All trips are undertaken in accordance with the Wildlife Photographers Code of Conduct to avoid disturbance to protected species.

All our events are approved as "Good to Go" Covid-secure by Visit England. If you'd like to discuss the walk or other options before booking please contact us. Thanks, Paul Smith, myGuidedWalks.

Alterations
We will always do their best to accommodate reasonable requests to alter your booking such as a change to the names of clients included in your booking or, in the case of private bookings, a change to the itinerary. If there are associated costs relating to such a change we reserve the right to discuss these costs with you and make an additional charge for them if the alteration is agreed.
For outdoor astronomy and astrophotography activities: we have a very flexible approach to bookings as described on our website section on Flexibility & Weather. Your astronomy/astrophotography outdoor bookings are valid for 1 year from the time of purchase. You can book a date and then reschedule if the weather isn't suitable. You can select a provisional date (if not already booked), or if you prefer you can just indicate roughly when you'd like it to take place. I will regularly review weather forecasts, and keep you updated in the week leading up to your booking. There is also an option in the booking form to be added to a group where I will post about forecasts for clear skies and key astronomical events so you could consider bringing your booking forward. A final decision to go ahead will usually be taken within 24hrs of the booked date, although I'll take account of the level of flexibility you have, travel plans etc.

Cancellations
We strongly recommend clients consider taking out appropriate cancellation insurance. In the event of a booking being cancelled by a client, then we will refund the client as follows:
  • Cancellations more than 30 days from the start of the activity will receive a 75% refund, excluding any additional costs incurred by myGuidedWalks for accommodation we have booked, or the option to change to an alternative date that we can accommodate.
  • Cancellations 30 days or less from the start of the activity will not be refunded however for astronomy/astrophotography outdoor activities our flexible approach to rescheduling due to the weather still applies.

In exceptional circumstances myGuidedWalks may need to cancel your booking. If myGuidedWalks cancel your booking you will have a choice of receiving a full refund or changing your booking to an alternative date or activity of equal value. If you prefer to change to an activity of a higher value you will be required to pay the difference. We will not be liable for any additional costs or expenses incurred as a result of such a cancellation.
Open group walks operate with a minimum number of 2 participants. If you are the only person to book on a walk or course we may contact you to offer you the choice of swapping to an alternative date or activity or to receive a full refund. Navigation Training courses, private and other bespoke activities have no minimum numbers.
